8:30am to 4pm daily
Botanical Printing is an extraordinary new exhibition at the Botanic Garden of Smith College. The exhibit features stunning nature prints of plant foliage created by artist Leonore Alaniz. Using nature printing, with an emphasis on color and composition, Alaniz brings alive the world of plants in a stimulating new way. Visitors are invited to experience the wonder of nature by being immersed in a world of patterns, shapes, structure, and color, and to discover how botany and art are intertwined and interconnected. There will be a reception with the artist on November 9 and a workshop on November 10, thus the public can further engage themselves in the world of botanical printing.
Botanical Printing introduces the technique of nature printing as applied to plants âÃÂàa technique of direct ink application to an object and imprinting it on paper. The artist uses this technique to explore the intricate textures and patterns that are found in the botanical world and are otherwise often overlooked.
A reception with the artist will be held on November 9, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, during which time the Fall Chrysanthemum Show will also be on view in the illuminated Lyman Conservatory.
